Zion Hill Parking Garage | Atlanta, GA

Atlanta, GA, Case Studies, Concrete Repair, Exterior Facades, Parking Structures, Religious Buildings

Western Specialty Contractors’ Atlanta Branch restored the Zion Hill Baptist Church parking garage in Atlanta, GA.

Located at 6175 Campbellton Road SW, Zion Hill Baptist Church is one of nine churches that grew out of Friendship Baptist Church, established in 1862 and, after the Civil War, independently organized in 1866, becoming Atlanta’s first Black Baptist autonomous congregation. Zion Hill Baptist Church was officially established in 1872.

Western’s scope of work included a variety of concrete repairs to Zion Hill church’s onsite parking garage, with the most challenging aspect being repairs to its overhead concrete slab. Westen’s concrete restoration experts performed a total of 6,200 sq ft of overhead concrete repairs. This proved particularly challenging given the owner’s short timeline to complete the numerous repairs.

“Effective production and planning were essential to the success of this project. We found that attaching chipping hammers to air jacks allowed our crew to chip longer without taking breaks to relieve fatigue, effectively increasing our production and allowing us to stay on schedule,” said Atlanta Branch Manager Chet Scott.

Western started the project in June 2025 and completed it on schedule at the end of October 2025, within budget. The engineer on the project was Walter P Moore.

Maintaining a concrete parking structure can be challenging. Vehicles regularly entering parking garages can leave water, oil and muck behind that can corrode the structure’s concrete and steel support system. An ineffective maintenance routine for a parking structure can quickly lead to costly repairs and restorations that are disruptive to drivers and create unexpected costs and safety concerns. Keeping up with concrete repairs and maintaining a garage’s waterproofing will help to extend the life of any busy parking structure.

Western offers a FREE Parking Garage Visual Guide & Checklist to easily identify and track damage to a parking structure’s main components, including its concrete slabs and beams, support columns, walls, drainage, and expansion and control joints. Click Here to download the FREE guide.
