Eden Prairie Center Parking Ramp | Eden Prairie, MN

Case Studies, Concrete Repair, Minneapolis, MN, Parking Structures

Western Specialty Contractors’ Minneapolis Branch recently completed a project to restore the ramp to the Eden Prairie Center parking garage in Eden Prairie, MN.

Eden Prairie Center is a mall located at 8251 Flying Cloud Dr. that was developed in 1976. The 1.1 million sq ft mall is anchored by Kohl’s, Target, Von Mauer and Scheels Sporting Goods.

The parking ramp leading to the top level of the mall’s two-level parking structure was in need of restoration due to weathering and daily use. Made of concrete and steel, parking structures are subject to an onslaught of environmental stressors and wear-and-tear caused by vehicles regularly entering and leaving oil, water and muck behind. Salt de-icers tracked in during the winter months can corrode the structure’s concrete and steel support system.

An ineffective maintenance routine on a parking structure can quickly lead to costly repairs and restorations that can be disruptive to tenants and cause unexpected costs and safety concerns.

Western’s Minneapolis branch was contracted on June 30, 2025 to make curb and overhead repairs to Eden Prairie Center’s parking ramp, plus replace the ramp’s expansion joints and joint sealants. Following the repairs, Western’s crew applied 129,000 sq ft of new deck sealer (Sika 705L) on the ramp’s driving surface and installed new shear connectors and rewelds to further reinforce the ramp structure.

Western communicated closely with onsite managers to determine the best times during the busy back to school shopping season to shut down parking spots, lanes and walkways to make the necessary ramp repairs with limited disruption to customers. Western was able to successfully complete the project within four weeks.
