Western Specialty Contractors’ Minneapolis branch was given less than a week to repair cracks and waterproof an underground parking garage for the new BLOC apartments opening in Fargo, ND.
BLOC is a modern, mixed-use community developed by Great States Development on North University Drive. With 126 thoughtfully designed apartments and activated ground-floor commercial space, BLOC is built to serve Fargo’s growing demand for dynamic, amenity-rich living.
With the new complex set to open in August 2025, Western’s parking garage restoration experts were called in just before opening to repair cracks in the garage’s floor, install a cove joint, perform shotblasting and apply 16,000 sq ft of a three-coat vehicular traffic coating system.
Traffic coatings provide a seamless, protective barrier against water infiltration and chemicals, such as de-icing salts and road debris, that can lead to corrosion and structural damage in a parking garage. Traffic coatings can also enhance a garage’s aesthetic appeal, improve safety with their slip-resistant qualities, and reduce the need for concrete repairs and maintenance over time.
Western’s waterproofing experts began the project on July 21. They completed the work within 4 days, ahead of schedule, despite having to make more crack repairs than anticipated on the garage’s existing slab. Western also completed the work within budget and to the owner’s satisfaction.
