Preventive maintenance of building exteriors has become more critical than ever, particularly in areas where the air contains a higher salt concentration, such as Florida’s coast.
Western Specialty Contractors’ Orlando, FL, recently completed a four-month project to restore and waterproof the façade of 444 Seabreeze Blvd. in Daytona, FL. Located in the heart of Daytona’s historic Seabreeze Business District, the 153,884-square-foot, 10-story professional office building is less than a mile from the beach and has views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Constructed in 1974, the building’s concrete and glass façade showed signs of accelerated deterioration due to the salt air and needed routine restoration and waterproofing. Utilizing the building’s 12 swing stage drops, Western’s restoration specialists performed the following work on the facade:
- Installed 480 Simple Seal I-Beam Custom Extrusions with Spectrem 1 Tremco sealants
- Made vertical concrete repairs totaling 106 sq ft using Sika VOH and A1C
- Applied a Sherwin-Williams LOXON XP protective coating to the façade (24,360 sq ft)
Western completed the project on schedule and within budget, satisfying facility manager Seabreeze Office Associates, LLC.
