Western Specialty Contractors’ Minneapolis Branch has completed a project to waterproof a new pumphouse for the City of Woodbury.
Located in Woodbury, MN, Western was hired by general contractor Vinco, Inc. to waterproof the new pumphouse’s concrete walls and slab. Pumphouses are public utility buildings that contain pumps and equipment for pumping fluids from one place to another. They are critical in a variety of infrastructure systems, such as water supply, drainage of low-lying land, and removal of sewage to processing sites.
Due to consistent rains, temporary pumps had to be employed to remove flooding in the pumphouse prior to Western beginning its work on July 24, 2025. Western’s waterproofing experts started the project by preparing the pumphouse’s walls and top horizontal slab for waterproofing by power washing, hand griding and filling all cracks and joints in the concrete.
Crews then installed a BITUTHENE® 3000 membrane system to protect the building from water infiltration. The BITUTHENE 3000 system is a low temperature, self-adhesive, rubberized asphalt compound specifically designed to adhere to cured concrete surfaces.
Western was able to complete the project on Aug. 8, 2025, within budget to the satisfaction of the owner. Bolton & Menk, Inc. was the engineer on the project.
