Western Specialty Contractors Restores Exterior Facade of the Illinois Attorney General Building in Springfield, IL
Western Specialty Contractors’ Springfield branch has completed a façade restoration project on the Illinois Attorney General Building, located in downtown Springfield The work was performed for the Capitol Development Board, with ADG serving as the project architect. Construction began on October 20, 2023, and reached completion on August 23, 2024.
The project focused on improving the building’s durability, appearance, and resistance to environmental exposure. Western’s crews removed and replaced the joint sealants across the building’s entire exterior façade to enhance weatherproofing performance and protect the
underlying structural materials. The team also cleaned all stone and concrete wall surfaces using specialized detergents suited for historic and government facilities, ensuring the façade was restored to a uniform, refreshed condition.
A significant component of the project involved applying a Graffiti Control Sealer to the entire façade and surrounding walls. This protective treatment allows graffiti to be easily removed with chemical cleaners, helping the State of Illinois maintain the building’s appearance while reducing long-term maintenance demands. “The materials specified for this project provide an important benefit for the building’s ongoing care,” said Project Manager Josh Woolard. “The sealer aids in graffiti removal and helps return the façade to a clean state more efficiently.”
Western Specialty Contractors served as the prime contractor for the project and completed the work within budget. The treatments and repairs performed will help preserve the building’s exterior and support the State of Illinois in maintaining one of its prominent government
structures.
