Western Specialty Contractors’ San Antonio, TX branch completed repairs to the brick façade on Camille Lightner Hall at Trinity University, a private liberal arts college in San Antonio, TX.
Built in 1965, Camille Lightner Hall is a five-floor residence hall located between Prassel and Thomas Halls on the west side of campus and is attached to Thomas Hall. The 120-bed Lightner Hall is known for its unique interior setup and the Lightner Tea Room, which serves as a gathering place for events and studying.
Western’s façade experts were contracted by general contractor Malitz Construction to remove approximately 620 sq ft of chipped and cracked brick around the inner arches of the hall’s balconies, as well as on both the interior and exterior faces of the balconies and the building’s corners. The brick damage was caused by a lack of control joints on the building’s exterior.
Western replaced the damaged bricks to restore the aesthetic appearance of the façade and cut-in new control joints to allow for more natural movement of the building and prevent the new bricks from cracking. Western also pressure-washed the hall’s entire façade for a fresh, new appearance.
Western started the work on June 1, 2025, while classes were out for the summer, and was expected to complete the project before students returned for the fall semester in August.
To achieve this goal, Western explored multiple tool options to determine the most effective and efficient solution for the job.
Despite the challenges, Western successfully completed the project on July 31, 2025, and within budget.
