Western Specialty Contractors’ Kansas City Roofing Branch replaced roofs on The Historic Residences at Dutch Hill multi-family complex in Kansas City, MO.
Located at 900 East 29th Street, The Historic Residences at Dutch Hill is a 36-unit apartment community built in 1912 in the Longfellow neighborhood of Kansas City. The property encompasses seven parcels totaling .79 acres with approximately 25,350 rentable square feet.
Management firm VanTrust Real Estate hired Western in May 2025 to remove and replace the roofing systems on four buildings within the complex, totaling 12,000 sq ft.
Western’s crews removed existing roofing and installed new R-30 Polyiso insulation, a 60-mil white TPO membrane, and sheet metal flashings on the buildings, providing a 20-year warranty.
A TPO roof was selected for its many benefits:
- White, highly reflective, and TPO, a TPO roof reduces heat absorption and lowers cooling costs. The added insulation can further improve the building’s thermal performance.
- It is ideal for aging roofs with widespread leaks that are difficult to repair individually.
- It can be installed over a wide range of temperatures, is resistant to UV rays, chemicals, and weather, and accommodates building movement.
Western’s experienced roofing crew was challenged by limited construction space, as the apartments were still occupied during the project. The properties were also undergoing masonry restoration, landscaping, and painting as Western’s crews finished each building.
Despite the challenges, Western completed the project within budget and on schedule in less than a month, to the customer’s satisfaction.
