Committed to Western’s Environmental Policy


Western Specialty Contractors is a contractor specializing in waterproofing, masonry and concrete restoration, roofing and related services. We are committed to the protection of the environment. We ensure that our services do not result in the generation or release of materials that could impact the environment. It is our goal to further reduce the environmental impacts of our services and to operate in an environmentally responsible manner.

This policy applies to all of our operations including the Corporate Office. The Safety Director is responsible for ensuring that the policy is communicated and implemented.

All employees have accepted responsibility to:

  • Participate in education awareness programs
  • Recognize  and reduce or eliminate environmental exposures
  • Abide by the objective of the policy
  • Comply with all federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.

Western Specialty Contractors’ management ensures that resources are available to enable Western to achieve our objectives. We plan to:

 1. Continually examine the environmental impact of all activities and include environmental risk assessment on the agenda of:

  • Safety Advisory Committee Meetings
  • Safety Department Meetings
  • Enterprise Risk Management Assessment Meetings with our insurance consultant, AON
  • Individual Job “Site Specific Plans”

 2. Continue environmental performance evaluation and testing on a sample of job sites,  including measurement and monitoring, through:

  • Field Safety Managers
  • Insurance Loss Control Representatives
  • Industrial Hygienist consultants

3. Continue to evaluate the purchase and use of products and raw materials that are not hazardous to the environment and seek to reduce the emission of any volatile organic compounds and other elements that are harmful to the environment.

4. Re-emphasize to all employees our environmental programs and provide necessary training to enable them to perform their responsibilities. Awareness and performance training is included in the following scheduled events during the year:

  • New Employee Orientations
  • Branch Manager Meetings
  • Superintendent Development Meetings
  • Superintendent Meetings
  • Foremen’s Meetings
  • Branch Safety Meetings
  • Individual Job Meetings as exposures indicate

To achieve our goals, we have set the following targets:

  • Ensure operating staff are updated relative to hazardous material use and incorporate this training into the employee orientation program for operating supervisors.
  • Re-examine and communicate storage standards for all materials.
  • Re-examine hazardous and waste materials stored at each location and establish a goal to control the amount of waste materials and create a regular disposal plan with a reputable hazardous disposal company.
  • Continue to research and evaluate state-of-the-art equipment in our processes, including dust control and fume control of hazardous materials.
  • Continually evaluate the fleet miles per gallon standard and set an annual benchmark. As vehicles are purchased and sold, the company will select vehicles that drive the corporate average up.
  • Work with owners, designers, and general contractors to select the lowest VOC emitting products available that meet the product quality requirements and also lowers the overall footprint of the company.


The progress of these objectives will be monitored through our Safety Department Field Safety Mangers with reports made at regular management meetings.
